Really Simple Things to Do to be Happier

Everyone strives to be happy and happiness can be obtained from so many different sources. It can be surprising to know that even the littlest things are enough to put a smile on your face and leave a big positive impact on your life. The following are some really simple acts that you may do to become a happier person in general:

Exercise Regularly

No matter if it’s using the treadmill, gardening or belly dancing, all kinds of exercises help beat the blues. Getting enough physical activity floods your brain with endorphins that make you feel happy. Exercising regularly also makes you feel better about your body, giving you a general sense of well being.

Sleep More

Nothing can make you feel cranky and depressed more than sleep deprivation. Experts recommend getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep nightly, the kind that makes you feel refreshed upon awakening. Studies have shown that getting sufficient sleep nightly helps ward off negative emotions like fear and anxiety.

Devote Time to Family and Friends

Sharing moments with the ones you love is a great way to remind yourself that you’re not alone and there are people who really care about your existence. Knowing that there are others you can actually count on allows you to feel safer and more protected, thus keeping those unhappy thoughts at bay.

Make Others Happy

Researches have shown that spending a couple of hours per week to helping others allows you to be a happier person. Making others happy can be enriching and helps bring in more pleasure than any material thing. Scientists have found out that doing an act of kindness is the single most reliable approach to increasing a person’s well being.

Maintain a Happy Diary

Grab a pen and a small notebook and write down at least one good thing about the day. Doing this on a daily basis allows you to find even the littlest things that you should be thankful for. As you fill one page after the other, you will realize that life isn’t so bad after all despite of the occasional gripes and worries.

Play Some Music

Grab your music player or smartphone and listen to some upbeat songs. Allow yourself to get lost in the melody and words. Moving to the beat is also a wonderful idea — dancing is a fun and really creative form of exercise. Certainly, your playlist should be devoid of songs about heartaches and miseries.

Step Foot Outside the Home

A University of Sussex study found out that participants who were regularly outdoors in all sorts of natural environments are considerably happier than those who were confined in urban environments. When you’re feeling down in the dumps, get in touch with nature. Breathe in some fresh air and allow the sun to touch your skin.
